I was asked to share on the constructs of the ceremony. Let me share this to begin. My ceremony is my tradition, what I share here is simply a way of a simple ceremony that you can create within your own sacred space.
All ceremony is sacred. All life is sacred. So whenever we begin a ceremony of any nature, we pause and offer prayer. Before began even creating the prayer bundles that will be gifted to the fire, before collecting the wood for the fire, and certainly before the actual ceremony a pause. A prayer was offered. A prayer to guide intention, the soul, and the spirit that all be done with honor, integrity, and in accordance with sacred law.
As the items were gathered to create the prayer bundles, prayers were offered again. As wood was gathered to fuel the fire, a prayer was offered. The key in creating the prayers yourself is simply your intention. Enough emphasis on intention cannot be stated. If the intention is pure in nature, you will always speak sacred words. The other portion of all prayer should be gratitude. Gratitude for the Spirits guiding you, for the elements providing the supplies, and for the Great Creator of All Things.
As this is a healing ceremony to evoke the energies of Spring to emerge from the darkness of winter and to begin building and budding for a new season, the sacred space should reflect the same. Whatever items represent spring to you. For the living altar which is being created specifically for this ceremony I have chosen to plant small seedlings which have been grown in compost soil from a cutting of another plant. In addition, small handmade pottery dishes contain some sacred herbs - tobacco, cedar, sage, and sweetgrass in each direction. It is very simple. The intent of a living altar is that as the seedlings grow, as the energy evolves, the healing continues and will serve as an anchor when someone may need to reconnect again to experience healing.
The ceremony itself, for me personally, will begin early in the day. I will spend the day fasting and preparing my own being for ceremony. I will begin the morning with a traditional Shakti Fire in the tradition of MaRa. The prayer bundles will be brought from my indoor temporary altar where they have been flooded with both the sunlight and moonlight from a bay window out to the living altar.
My own being will go through a smudging by using some of each of the sacred herbs in the pottery added with camphor, those in physical attendance will also be smudged. A prayer to the seven directions will be offered. My own guides and connections to the fire will be called and asked for assistance. And then the ceremony will begin. Each prayer bundle individually offered to the fire and prayed upon carrying the individual intention it was created with. As there are currently over 500 bundles, it will be a longer fire. Once the bundles have all been added, an additional prayer will be offered. Gifts to the fire will be offered in gratitude of the smoke carrying the intentions in the winds. We will drum, we will chant, and perhaps some may dance. Then it will be asked if there are any messages to be carried as a collective back. Another prayer of gratitude and celebration will be offered to close the ceremony.
This is just a simple overview of how the ceremony here will work. For your own ceremony - pray, give thanks, celebrate and say thank you again. While ceremony is sacred, it is also a time to rejoice and celebrate the gifts of life. The answered prayers. The healing's. The miracles. The experience of connection to Spirit. It should not be a somber or unemotional experience. Fire. The Eternal Flame of Love. Let it incite you and carry you. Allow it to purify you and lighten you from the burdens so that you may dance once more.
