What we believed to be true as far as our government, institutions, and structures in our lives no longer fits the old Norman Rockwell painting (Saturn). We have known since the 60’s that the “perfect” ideal that is sold in marketing does not exist, but we have continued to follow the (elders) from the 60’s into the next couple of decades, even when they were escaping from themselves through drugs, alcohol, and sexual escapades (Pluto conjunct Uranus 1965 and 1966). When the hippies transformed, so did their idea of the world, and hence they became the yuppies and substituted drugs with “things” to create a false sense of security through different means. These archetypes by the way are the cultural (general energies).
For the last decade, consumerism has been our battle cry. When 9/11 occurred, one of instructions that came from our President was to continue shopping. We have spent most of our foundation and structure on this belief--”if you think you want it, buy it.” We are now in the process of rebalancing some of the extremes, and the Universe once again puts the question to us. How do we wish to proceed?
Do we have the ability to do things differently? One of the gifts that Jesus brought to this world was the ability to see life through the eyes of gratitude. He came from a very different viewpoint, one that illuminated the importance of simplicity. Can we shift our attitude back to this? Marketing has made us feel that if we purchase the right stuff, our life will be wonderful. But I think our landfills in this country can speak the truth to this story. If we are going to shift into 2012, it is going to need to be about “the people” and not the stuff--no matter what the stuff is. Chiron in astrology is the wound that needs attention, and this year Chiron is going to play a major role in our collective.
The planets are alining to illuminate the story beneath the story which is another theme for 2012. What lies underneath our drive is something we need to consider.
